a little too quiet
Jun. 17th, 2008 04:03 pmIt's damn quiet in here today, and I get the impression we're all skiving a teeny bit(although pretending not to be skiving) by waiting for a later session to work on... not that anyone higher up seems to care.
But it goes without saying that this is better than the other job (neither of which I'm really supposed to blog about, apparently, so we shall vague it up as can be).The other job is irritating me to the nth degree with petty little daftness that really shouldn't be down to me to sort out. And yet, I'm plagued by the sure as all hell knowledge that if I don't do it, no one else will. And then bad things happen, for all concerned.
There's a change in the wind, and I'm supposed to be figuring out the direction... all this has really amounted to so far is sending off a forlorn little application for a publishing job I might possibly be remotely qualified for, but I'm not holding my breath in any way, shape or form. I'm getting a little old for all these graduate jobs, my cover letters read horribly, and I just don't have the time or energy to go snapping around the heels of all those fun-sounding places.
It might have helped to have had a Plan several years ago, as things are running a tad dry now, is all. The current run of Job#2 will end next month, and as I've been screaming "OH DEAR GOD NO!!" at every entreatyto stay on a Job#1 on a more permanent basis, I kinda need to start disentangling myself from there as well.
I could... ooh, get a 6 month contract somewhere and wait for next year's run of Job#2 maybe. The only thing I'm really planning (or even interested in planning) is the next big trip next July time, currently set for Yellowstone and Beartooth perhaps. And the fact that July screams ComiCon to me is neither here nor there (nor is that detour to Portland, as it's totally not doable, honest.).
And back to the reason why all my darn jobs just don't last: they all seem to get a bit persnickety about me gallivanting round the States for a month at a time. C'est la vie...
But back to the fun stuff... Just booked tickets for the last gasp of the LOTR musical before they get rudely shoved aside for Oliver, and last week ended up seeing Avenue Q. Which was highly entertaining, in a Team America kinda way (and Trekkie Monster reminded me of the doodle dog, minus the obsession with porn, obv...).
And I'm trying (and almost succeeding) to get along to the London Stitch&Bitch meetings--although last week's had the odd effect of making me totally lose concentration while trying to unpick a row and have a dropped stitch panic... we're back on track now though, and the blanket is looking like a seriously long haul project, so we shall see! Two rows a night is enough to give me crippling finger cramp and make me sick of the whole thing, so probably not wise to blitz it, methinks.
And here we go for the later session; just that last pre-break ep of BSG tonight and I then I have to go amuse new people at work tomorrow... Lucky them!
