LFF

We're barely into autumn and the cold has well and truly kicked in already... gah! There is much shivering and huddling around the fire the past couple of days (when said fire is working.. the gas supply is a little, ahem, temperamental.).

distraction therapy is good for the cold, though - I'm halfway through trying to nab the last few remaining tickets for some showings at the film festival on the, er, first day booking opens (got a little caught up in trying to find the films and kinda forgot to check whether taking time off work was exactly.. practical. Oh dear, ho hum.).  Last year I only managed the Green Knowe adapatation and the truly fabulous Mayor's Gala showing of the gloriously depressive Bright Star. The year before that, I think I only managed Nick and Norah's infinite playlist... this year, gawd knows! I want to nab Meek's Cutoff at least, because we spent so much time in Oregon on the trip this year, and have an inkling to see Hilary Swank in Conviction, plus the odd subtitled curio like Dear Doctor. The budget can only hold so much, though, even if i take time off work and manage the cheaper matinees.  Little bit miffed that Black Swan sold out before public booking even opened, and even more miffed that Cold Weather also vamooshed equally quickly, dammit.

I still haven't managed to see Winter's Bone again, even though it's my feelbad fave film of the year (there really is nothing like sitting in a foreign country, all alone in a cinema and aching all over while watching a gruelling, harsh trek through the Missouri backwoods featuring multiple beatings, after having taken a spectacularly public tumble over an open drain cover myself while walking there..).  Heh. That film was spectacularly moving, and the end is so damn cathartic...
