it's tough being a stress puppy
Oct. 11th, 2008 10:49 pmGood grief, it's three and a half weeks til November 5th, and the fireworks have started already. I'm guessing by people who don't have animals to freak out. Gee, thanks guys. Now i get to spend half the night trying to explain to the Doodlebug through sign language (or the medium of interpretive dance?) that there's nothing to be scared of. Not that he's actually deaf, but being selectively deaf due to an attention span thislong means he pays way more attention to stuff he can see.
As I'm starting to panic about The Trip From Hell (36 hours each way on plane to Oz, con familia. Kill. Me. Now.) and voluntarily sold myself into slavery (going permanent at work, which is usually something of another phobia), so the random book buying and obsessive tv viewing to calm my nerves kicked off again. I'm also trying to buy up enough zen batteries to keep my player going on the plane for 24 hours solid, but we shall see... The laptop is sadly gona be limited to 3 hours, give or take messing about with the power settings, so no videos, and mahjong really isn't going to keep me amused for that long. Hopefully I'll be too whacked out on valium to care at that point (and really, there is no way I'll be even getting in the car to the airport without sedatives at this point. The only thing that could add to my stress levels would be if giant hairy spiders were involved, as this situation is just about hitting all my buttons otherwise). And then I didn't get Killers tickets for their O2 gig just before my birthday :o( *sob*
Nicer stuff... I finally watched Sanctuary and was totally impressed by Amanda Tapping's Brit accent, that was fun. Of course, she was born around here (yay, go Essex!) and moved to Canada aged 3, so it's slightly less shocking than it was - she was pretty pitch perfect though. Even funnier of course was finding out that Stephen Moyer, oh Mr Southern Vampire Bill, comes from Brentwood. That would be Essex again then, and finding that out tickled me almost as much as watching the new Twilight trailer did (oh but the tree climbing! and the jazz hands! I shall be taking a cushion to the cinema to hind behind at this rate.)
Heh. I should absolutely be getting some sleep, but maybe I'll read a bit more of Watchmen first. Don't ask me why, given the 16 billion opportunities I've had to buy it over the years, i get an itch last thing Friday night to go read it. That meant pegging it out of work at 6pm before the nearest bookshop over London Bridge closed at 6.30. I ran around Leadenhall Market like a mad thing, but dammit, I made it. And now I'm reading it verrryy slooowwlyy so my poor dull little brain can catch all the millions of intertextual references I keep hearing so much about, cos mainly, I tend to skim. And miss stuff. And that would be bad.
