can't read my..

So it's been a horrifically long, really quite horrible for the most part, day (there was a serious-to-god, visit the police to make a statement about a Very Bad Thing involved, after the very long day at work, and before that there was a 5am start to watch Lost, because I really couldn't not, and omg, what did they do there?).
And yet weirdly I feel about a billion times better after listening to Idina Menzel and the Glee kids covering Poker Face.  It really doesn't take very much, after all that.

Oh Lost, what did you guys do with my show?? I'll admit to feeling a teeny bit conned, somewhere along the line, by all the shiny stuff, and the moments that had me sitting there, hand over heart, kinda sqeeing several million times... and yet, it kinda slipped sideways for a while there, and when it was done spoilery ) I hate to say it, but I'm spying the potential for a tv movie next year, a la BSG doing The Plan (clue: there was no plan).

Also, Ashes to Ashes rocked back from a frankly crappy final series to do a Lost ending before Lost did, except, probably, they did it better.  spoilery )Damn, never thought I'd say it, but I could hack another series of that!
And now I need to sleep.

hmmmm

After a couple of days, maybe I'm not sulking quite so much about the Lost finale anymore... after all, it's all totally reversible at this point. I'm hoping. Gawd only knows.  I've just come out of most of the season finales for that feeling kinda better about it (although, this time last year, we also thought they'd just killed off Jin and Dan, and look how that turned out.)

Now I'm all caught up on that, just about a million other things to finish watching before the season ends... I'm letting ER hang on as long as possible, just to milk all the possible angst out of it.  The Neela/Ray reunion this week was gorgeously understated... we always kinda assumed we'd been told where she was going, and forgotten - I had North Carolina in my head for some reason? - but once I saw Shane West's name in the credits I figured it might be somewhere further south.  Was expecting him to turn up at the airport, initially, but that reveal was the best, just a gentle reminder that he's where he is now for a reason. (Although, also, when she had the Gallant flashback, I'd totally forgotten they were married, and felt awful).

Started catching up on Primeval as well tonight - missed a couple after they killed off Cutter (I like my dramatic deaths well signposted and spoiled so i can get used to it and move on, thank you very much, and that was a frickin' bolt from the blue).  It looks like Jenny leaves in the next ep too (I've seen bits and pieces from the next few but missed lots) so talk about a wholescale cast change for such a little show... they're plucky though, they can get away with it.  Frankly I'm quite happy watching so long as they leave Connor and Abby alone (but then I'm sad like that) as all the characters are basically clever and likeable... (yes, Demons, I'm aiming that at you)  Ok, none of them are Doug Henshall, but I can live with that, lol. Loving their military guy though.

What it does keep trying to do is expand in scale - the conspiracies, the future world (shot with v effective filters), working back through all the mythologies, and they seem to be confident enough to ditch all their ships except for Connor/Abby (although the Cutter/Jenny/Claudia(?Helen) paradox was a doozy that didn't exactly end well, so maybe they need a break now).  It's well written, and entertaining, and filling the Who gap nicely this year.  Robin Hood, I gave up on a loooong time ago, thankfully... (About the same time I gave up on Primeval first time around though, so I've learned my lesson about checking back occasionally, just in case).

You call that a finale...?

Ack.  What the hell was up with the Lost finale?! This season has been so good on so many levels, but that was a whole new range of wtfuckery right there.

spoilery lost finale rantings )

Gah.  Need sleep.  But I'm not happy.

Amelie, again

Of course it's up there with my top films of all time ever, but I'm watching the sublime Amelie on tv again right now, and kinda wishing i could be bothered to get up and put the DVD on instead...

in which there are crappy subtitles )

Odd, too, that last night was the final ep of the Amelie-inspired Pushing Daisies over here...

could this rock any more?!

Heheh.  New Terminator Salvation  trailer decidedly doesn't suck, woohoo!! Not that any of the footage I've seen so far has been worrying, but, new trailer? Super cool.

And it manages to co-exist beautifully with the TV show, so we get all the angles covered.. I'm a happy bunny.  It looks immense, and dark, and there's a twinge of Dark Knight in there (which can't hurt box office) and yet there's also a lot of bleak, sunbleached skull-crunching warzone stuff.. I'm sold.
And Bryce Dallas Howard, yay!
From what I can hear, Sam Worthington is sounding slightly Aussie though... It's not impossible in that universe (Jessie's presence got explained a couple of episodes back in Sarah Connor) but I get the impression the character is supposed to be American, unlike Jessie.  Which bugs me, yet again... I also get the impression that some Americans don't recognise Aussie accents, as a lot of them seem to slip through without mention when people are playing Brits/Americans.
Russell Crowe, especially, can't hold an accent up to save his life these days (seriously, just compare LA Confidential with American Gangster. He's actually worse at keeping the accent up now than before he won the Oscar. Go figure.) .  Melissa George bugged me the whole way through her stint in Alias by sounding ridiculously non-English... and I could go on but it's turning into a bit of a rant now.
Last week was also Franklyn.  Ah, almost, almost, such a great film.  Shame about it being totally batshit crazy.

spoiler Franklyn stuff )

squeeing for the sake of squeeing...

Tonight there are chocolate/Guiness cupcakes, and the rest of the Guiness, and Sarah Connor (but not Lost yet. Ack.)
Sarah Connor squeeeee )
Gah. Want to watch Lost already now! Obviously I cheated by reading recaps today instead of doing actual work.
slightly pre-emptive Lost 5x08 rambling )

Other stuff... I finally saw Dark Knight in Imax.  Considering I'd never been to the Imax before the Watchmen screening last week... woah.  The actual true Imax scenes were phenomenal.  I kept tracking the edge of the screen as it switched to Imax, and then the camera kinda plunged down into the cityscape.. Damn good stuff.  They should do this more often.

So sad...

... that I felt the need to compare, but Taylor Swift's blank zombie expression in the Love Story video is bugging the hell out of me.  The lyrics keep reminding me of a blanded down, completely-missing-the-point version of Mindy McCready's Romeo.  Also, that was written by Matraca Berg (=instant country classic goodness).

(just wound up reading what happened to McCready... gawd, no wonder she hasn't released anything in yonks.  Something of a country diva cliche, sadly, once you add up all the domestic abuse, suicide attempts, arrests and prescription drug abuse. Don't remember reading a word of it when it happened, which makes it kinda ironic that the only video of her singing Romeo on Youtube is the UK tv appearance on the Lottery show.  That was kinda surreal.)

And, also kinda on the subject of tweeny divas, out of Hillary Duff's Reach Out and Miley Cyrus's Fly on the Wall.. er, I think Miley strangely emerged with a tad more dignity intact, despite spending the video running from paparazzi.   Hillary has a whole freaky!Britney thing going on when, let's face it, it's hard to be more freaky than Britney herself right now (Circus=boring.  But I'm kinda intrigued by the whole If You See Amy  furore...

Lost 5x06 ramblings... )

Just to cap off a seriously confusing night of TV, there was an exceedingly silly ep of Bones (but only in the slot when I had been watching the equally silly Hustle, so that's alright then) with conjoined twins! and circuses! and Brennan and Booth had to go undercover! As a knife throwing act! Daft but sadly very watchable, if not remotely believable.  There was a sidecar and motorbike too. the mind boggles.

I can't really be bothered watching Sarah Connor at the US  pace at the mo, so tonight was Alpine Fields - fabulous stuff, actually.  All the things I watch this show for - the time loops feeding back and forward onto themselves (why does no one ever mention Heinlein's All You Zombies in this show? Terminator was the first thing I thought of when I read that story), slightly spoilery )
Dollhouse... )
